A worm very similar to the Code Red worm was released earlier this morning. Once a computer is infected with the virus, it begins flooding the network trying to infect other computers. As several DSL were infected this morning, aused our network to slowdown to a near halt this morning. We have so far also experienced about 5 minutes of downtime at 1:45 pm. As we discover computers that are infected, we will remove them from our network, unfortunately the Net is literally flooded with infected computers which will infect other computers within minutes or even seconds of a vulnerable server being connected to a DSL line. We will respond to infected computers as soon as we become aware of them, unfortunately, there may be a few minutes of downtime while we located and disable the affected DSL line. It is absolutely critical that you remain up-to-date on security patches if you wish run a server on our network. If your computer poses a security or network hazard, we will not hesitate to disconnect your line, terminate your service or even adopt a more restrictive server policy if necessary.

Thu Jan 25 18:38:16 2001Mail, Dialup userspartially complete
The line to the mail server was down from 5pm yesterday until late this afternoon. This prevented people from accessing the mail server for 101freeway.com accounts as well as dialup users accessing the internet. To remedy the problem, the mail server has been moved to a more reliable location where only a total outage can disable mail access. Dialup access will be restored as soon as is possible. Mail access should be unimpeded with messages delivered during the time of outage being spooled so that they were not lost.
